John C. Harris
Founder
John Harris knows the past, present and future of information design and
marketing communications. One of the most decorated information architects
spanning a diverse range of media from print advertising, collateral and
publication design to one of the early adopters of interactive media
technologies, having gained mastery over digital design predating the
Macintosh.
Harris has a passion for striking the perfect blend of art, science and
technology into his work. He has forged new territory in new media and its
applications in marketing communications, developing a keen understanding of
human factors and user interface design and applying that knowledge into web
and cd-rom applications.
Harris joined Hensley Segal Rentschler in 1992 in a strategic collaborative
effort to set the stage for interactive marketing communications. Harris played
a key leadership role in establishing the agency as one of the first marketing
communication firms world-wide to develop a web presence and an interactive
cd-rom capabilities presentation. This early innovative development of new
forms of marketing helped to win the agency "1995-96 Advertising Ages' Business
Marketing Agency of The Year." He has developed both print and interactive
communications for companies such as AK Steel, Apple Computer, Batesville
Casket Company, Beneficial National Bank, Comware Incorporated, GE Aircraft
Engines and Robbins Sport Surfaces.
Prior to Hensley Segal Rentschler, Harris spent six years as art director for
Wolf Blumberg Krody where he crafted the look and image of such companies as
Baldwin Piano and Organ Company, Burke Marketing, Frigidaire, Procter & Gamble,
Rockwell International and St. Anthony Messenger Press.
His creative work has been recognized nationally by his peers. For two
consecutive years he won recognition from the Society of Publication Designers,
New York City. Both his print and interactive media work has been recognized by
the American Advertising Federation in the form of an ADDY and the nation's Top
20 Hottest Web Sites and Best of Show from Business Marketing Association
ProCOMM award. He has also won many creative awards from the Advertising Club
of Cincinnati, Art Directors Club of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Editors
Association, Cincinnati Direct Marketing Association and Catholic Press
Association.
In 1983, Harris was recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives for
outstanding personal achievement in surmounting the limitations of osteogenesis
imperfecta, a congenital bone disorder which confines him to a wheelchair. He
is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Osteogenesis Imperfecta
Foundation for which he chaired the awareness committee. Harris currently
serves as a speaker and advisor for The Inclusion Network, an organization
formed by the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation to promote issues of
inclusion for people with disabilities.
