Online Pledges Responsible for 10 Percent of All Donations During WGUC-FM’s Winter 2000 Membership Campaign

ViewSource Media Created Web Site That Made It Happen

(Cincinnati, OH -- Feb. 9, 2000) -- WGUC-FM, Cincinnati’s Classical Public Radio, raised $182,800 during its January 2000 membership campaign. Nearly 10 percent of that total came from online pledges to the station’s Web site, www.wguc.org, which was created by ViewSource Media.

"Our Web site gives people the opportunity to pledge at any hour," said Chris Phelps, WGUC’s vice president of marketing. "Listeners aren’t limited to calling when our pledge phones are staffed."

Online pledging has been on the increase for the station, which credits its Web site for 5 percent of all donations during its fall 1999 campaign.

"Listeners who want to donate online can give a credit card number or ask to be billed," said Phelps. "It’s a secure and confidential system."

Visitors to WGUC’s Web site can listen to the station’s programming live via their computers, whether they’re in Cincinnati or on the other side of the globe. A play list current to within five minutes is also accessible on the site.

About WGUC-FM

WGUC-FM, Cincinnati’s oldest and largest public radio station, was founded in 1960 by a group of citizens who wanted a radio station devoted to cultural and public affairs programming. Today the station’s commitment to its heritage continues as it fulfills its mission to bring the finest classical music and public information programming to the people of the tri-state.

WGUC-FM was one of the first stations in the nation to meet the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's qualification standards; it was a charter member of National Public Radio in 1970; and a founder of American Public Radio (now Public Radio International) in 1982. WGUC was also one of the first NPR uplinks; the producer of the first digital west-to-east transatlantic broadcast; and is the only public radio station to commission new music.
